Although many of the students at PS 169 in Manhattan have struggled with their own life difficulties, that didn’t stop them from going all out to enthusiastically help kids with Duchenne. The whole school community — from the kids to the teachers to the custodian to the staff to the security guard — got in on the PS 169 Race to Find a Cure. Kids collected sponsorship money and ran around the school track. Supporters pitched in to sponsor the runners and a ripple effect began! Soon friends of PS 169 employees were sending in donations, and then friends of those friends sent in donations and before they knew it the school had raised more than $1,000 to help end Duchenne. Thank you PS 169 on behalf of all kids with Duchenne — including Charley and Kasheem Hawkins, whose dad works at PS 169.
